Interactive workshops to learn about new materials, mediums and techniques, while exploring your own singular artistic language.
I have been teaching and facilitating art workshops in various media including encaustic, cold wax medium and collage, for over a decade. My workshops are typically very exploratory in nature, and welcome students from all levels and artistic backgrounds. I believe that everyone has a unique and distinct way of making a mark, both literally and figuratively, even if they have never explored that aspect of their creative selves.
My hope is that students will not only learn something new technique or medium wise - but leave activated with new ideas and inspiration to inform their own artistic practice.
I’m continually enlivened by the spirited energy of group and community learning. A room full of people excited by the same subject—yet bringing wildly different interpretations to it—creates the most dynamic and motivating environment for learning.

Introduction to Encaustic Medium
WEDNESDAY November 4, 10 am- 5 pm w/lunch break
MARS LANDING ARTS CENTER, 47 Library Rd, Mars Hill, NC
This 1 day introductory workshop will give you an overview of the dynamic qualities of encaustic medium.
Come experiment and get hands on with encaustic to see if it is a medium you’d like to pursue - without investing in all of the materials first! See what it’s all about and leave with an 8” x 8” encaustic piece of your own.
Collage Clinic: Expand Your Process
MONDAY November 30th, 10 am- 2 pm
MARS LANDING ARTS CENTER, 47 Library Rd, Mars Hill, NC
Collage Clinic is a focused, hands-on workshop for anyone looking to refresh their collage-making practice, solve creative sticking points, and build collage/assemblage work with more confidence and intention. Through demonstrations and guided making time, we’ll explore ways to alter and transform materials, create interesting layers, and choose adhesives that suit the materials you are using.
Come with materials you love, questions about your process, or simply a desire to experiment. You’ll leave with new techniques and useful resources
Encaustic Collage
FRIDAY October 23 10 am- 5 pm w/lunch break. SATURDAY OCTOBER 24, 1 - 5 pm
PURPLE CRAYON, 50 N Merrimon Ave, STE 111, Asheville
This 2 day workshop will focus on the dynamic collage properties of encaustic medium.
In addition to having archival qualities, encaustic acts as both an adhesive and a medium, enabling you to reposition or remove collage elements easily, as well as add depth, translucency, and unique textural elements to your work.
We will also play with image transfers adding color and marks to our panels.

Collage Clinic: Expand Your Process

Limitation is Liberating!
This workshop considers how constraints and the element of surprise can simultaneously inform the creative process - for the better! We will work with a curated selection of provided materials - some you may not have considered before - to explore how we can adapt and alter seemingly mundane materials into a piece of art.
Our materials will include paper, wood, fiber and metal.
